On the finish line..

Uncategorized No Comments »

After another quite big amount of time we’re back again. The project fast comes to the end (the product should be finished by 18.05.2009) and so we’re ready to come to a first conclusion about the past three project semesters.

First of all we’re proud to be able to present a fully working multitouch application. Due to the little time we had to work on our application and the hardware setup beside all the other stuff, there were some features, we weren’t able to implement. This includes the whole rotation component. We also ran into some problems concerning Z-index in Java. There seems to be some bugs within the Java API itself which caused lots of trouble developing our components.

We also have to say that choosing Java as development language might not have been the best available solution. Nevertheless it was the right choice for our project team, as when the project started at the beginning of the second semester in computer science all of us were able to write Java code and we just haven’t had the time to learn another language just for this project.

More details and some videos will follow as soon as possible..

Status update

After several weeks of inactivity, we’re proud to present a status update of our project. Currently we’re working on the meeting table software for our MultiTouchScreen: After a user plugs in a memory stick into the MultiTouchScreen, the media files will appear on the meeting table and the user will be able to read and move the files around.

Currently supported files are:

  • Sound files
  • Text documents
  • PDF files
  • Images
  • Video files

Wide Band Hot Mirror

Today we got our ordered hot mirror from Thorlabs. It’s the “FM201 - Wide Band Hot Mirror, Dia = 2″, AOI = 0°, 1 mm Thick” which can be found/ordered here: http://www.thorlabs.com/NewGroupPage9.cfm?ObjectGroup_ID=897&visNavID=403

We were very excited about the result. Compare yourself:

First visitors

Hardware, Software No Comments »

Today we had our first visitors, which were two members of the I4DS. We showed them our basic ideas, our hardware setup as well as the software part. They were quite happy with what they saw and had some good ideas where we can go further, where we could implement some interesting stuff on the software side…and so on.

For us it was like a little “role-out” cause no one, except the team members of course, saw our product yet. We’re really looking forward to have some more people in our project-room because there’s nothing better to get some ideas from than someone who is not involved in the project himself and can see the whole thing from another perspective…

Soooo if you’re interested…drop us a mail ;)

Setup working!

Hi all!

We did some changes on our setup and now got it working. What we did was:

  • Adding a thorlabs 880-40 bandpass-filter. this one was worth every cent!
  • replaced our two led-bars with new ones (485P instead of 485-2s)
  • ourcamera is now next to the projector, also pointing on the mirror
  • the beamer angle is more flat…this way we were able to eliminate the ghost images…

The accuracy of the blobs is awesome! enjoy the pics…

As we are still experimenting we decided to realise both methods: FTIR and DI aswell.

Right now we’re still focusing on FTIR, cause we’ll have the possibility to start working on our software in less time. Some words to our hardware:

  • Unibrain Fire-i with both the normal and a wide-lens
  • Some Beamer from our University which seems to be quite good (as for the throw distance)
  • One Plexi with Rosco and Silicon (FTIR) and the other one with Gerriets Optitrans (DI)
    –> not everything finished yet
  • Osram SFH-485-2 (FTIR) and two of those IR-Clusters (DI)
  • 80cm by 60cm Projection-surface

More details will follow. If you have any questions….don’t hesitate!
